The day after Thanksgiving marks the “official” start of the Christmas season and there are a few things I like to do to transition from holiday to holiday.

  1. Leave the dishes. Forget about the post-Thanksgiving destruction in your dining room and kitchen for now. Enjoy the day off.
  2. Pumpkin pie for breakfast. One of the best parts of Thanksgiving is the leftovers. I love to start off my morning with a slice of pumpkin pie piled high with whipped cream.
  3. Go outside. Chances are you spent hours in the kitchen preparing food or in front of the T.V. watching football yesterday. Get some fresh air.
  4. Get some coffee. I don’t know what it is about going to coffee shops, but getting dressed just to buy a cup of coffee makes me feel less lazy on a day when absolutely nothing is required of me.
  5. NO Black Friday sales. Avoid the angry mobs fighting over sales at the mall at all costs. Trampling or getting trampled by strangers for a 10% discount is not the way to kick off the Christmas season.

{Gilded posters from the vaguely}

A huge portion of my life is spent in front of a computer, and while that’s typically seen as a bad thing, it also allows me to accomplish a few tasks more efficiently: primarily shopping. Gone are the junior high days of worrying that I’m going to see the same shirt that I just bought on five other girls, because the internet presents nearly infinite possibilities: international, handmade, vintage, boutique, etc.

Etsy is by far my favorite site to find novel and authentic items. These are just a few of the little gems I’ve stumbled upon lately:

{Gorgeous aquamarine and rose gold ring from Garnet Girl Designs}

{Hilarious and gaudy bookends from Mahzer&Vee}

{Beautiful painting reminiscent of What Dreams May Come from Mattsart}

{Ultra feminine and quirky emerald green coat from Different Design Fashion}

This has been an unbelievably busy and stressful week. The weekend is almost here and I would love nothing more than to relieve my stress with a little retail therapy, but my responsible side will most likely win out. Rather than spending my entire paycheck on luxury items, I might purchase just a FEW necessities. Nordstrom is having their Half Yearly Sale for Women, after all! For now, here are my top five lusted after items.

{Sparkly new library card}

It’s important to take the time to appreciate the little things in life. I just picked up my brand new, ultra sparkly library card and I’m overly thrilled. I’m a bit of a book nerd (you can see what I’m currently reading here), so after learning that I could borrow books on my Kindle through the public library, I immediately went out and signed myself up. I haven’t had a library card since college (which I used primarily to gain access to the library’s Starbucks and large comfy chairs to nap in between classes), but I expect I’ll put this new one to better use than the last.

Here are a few other things making me happy this week:

{New Phone: Samsung Galaxy S III}

{Adorable bridesmaid’s gift from a friend that has now replaced my tattered old makeup bag}

{My constant source of happiness, Ollie, relaxing in the shade at my parents’ house}
